SORT & MINGLE FOR SINGLES

For three years, Connecticut Food Bank has hosted the annual Sort and Mingle for Singles. This Valentine's week event brings together volunteers who would like to meet other single people in the area who are dedicated to service and helping those in need. At Sort and Mingle, guests are given a tour of our East Haven facility and invited to take part in Valentine's Day themed refreshments. Afterwards, they proceed to our sorting area to go through salvaged cans and packages from supermarkets to see which products we can keep to help feed our hungry neighbors.

The 2009 Sort & Mingle for Singles will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Feb. 11 at Connecticut Food Bank, 150 Bradley Street, East Haven.

TASTE OF THE NATION

In early spring, Share Our Strength sponsors Taste of the Nation at the Omni New Haven Hotel. This gala event brings together area restaurants and vintners so that they can showcase their dishes or signature drinks. Guests are invited to sample cuisine and take part in a silent auction. At the end of the night, awards are given out to participating restaurants. Connecticut Food Bank hosts an information table and benefits by receiving a portion of the proceeds from Taste of the Nation.

STAMP OUT HUNGER

Each May, the National Association of Letter Carriers hosts its Stamp Out Hunger, the nation's largest annual one-day food drive. Residents in participating communities leave non-perishable food items at their mailboxes for letter carriers to collect and deliver to collection points throughout CFB's service area. Connecticut Food Bank staffs these collection points and our warehouses so that we can then sort through the donations for distribution.
