Walk Against Hunger

In 2010, Connecticut Food Bank expanded its Walk Against Hunger presented by Webster Bank to include an event in Bridgeport. The Walk in Bridgeport was held on April 18 at the Beardsley Zoo. That Walk was followed by the fifth annual Greater Waterbury Walk Against Hunger on April 25 at Library Park, Waterbury, and the 34th annual Greater New Haven Walk Against Hunger in New Haven on May 2 at East Rock Park, New Haven.

Overall, the Walk in the three communities attracted 1,200 walkers and raised more than $180,000 for the anti-hunger effort in Connecticut. Those funds enable Connecticut Food Bank to distribute enough food for more than 610,000 meals.

"Our Walk seeks to to raise public awareness about the problem of hunger and gives people in the community an opportunity to do something to help feed people," said Janet Kniffin, Connecticut Food Bank's Chief Development Officer.

In Connecticut, 390,000 men, women and children struggle with not having enough to eat.
